Privacy Policy
Last updated October 16, 2026
ReelCheck is built to collect as little as possible. This policy explains what we handle, why, and your choices. ReelCheck is operated by Edward Zabrensky. Contact: support@reelcheck.io.
What happens on your iPhone
- Screen and audio. When you start listening, iOS shares your screen with ReelCheck. The app keeps only the last 90 seconds of audio and a screenshot every few seconds, in memory, and discards them continuously. Nothing is written to your storage.
- Transcription. Speech is turned into text on your iPhone using Apple's speech recognition.
- History. The text of your recent results is saved on your iPhone only, so you can look back at them. Deleting the app deletes it.
Auto-check (optional)
Auto-check is off unless you turn it on in the app's Settings, and it's available only with Premium or its free trial. While it's on and ReelCheck is listening, the app transcribes new speech on your iPhone. When there's enough new speech, at most about every 90 seconds, it sends that transcript and a few screenshots to be checked without you tapping anything. Our server first asks the AI model whether the text makes a claim worth checking. If it doesn't, nothing more happens and nothing is kept. If it does, a full check runs like any other. You're notified only when a claim looks Misleading or False. You can turn Auto-check off in Settings at any time, and it stops whenever you stop listening.
What we receive and why
- Content of a check: the transcript, up to 5 screenshots, or the link or video you share, plus the post's public caption and thumbnail for shared links. This includes automatic checks if you turn on Auto-check, along with a short list of claims it already checked so it doesn't repeat them. Used only to produce that check. Not stored after the check finishes, and not used for advertising or to build a profile of you.
- Install identifier: a random ID created by the app, used to apply daily limits when you're not signed in.
- App Attest key: a cryptographic key from Apple that proves requests come from the genuine app. It doesn't identify you.
- Account identifier: if you sign in with Apple, the anonymous user ID Apple gives us for ReelCheck. We don't ask for your name or email.
- Subscription status: the transaction ID and expiry of your subscription, signed by Apple, to unlock Premium. We never see your payment details.
- Usage counts: how many checks and auto-checks you've used in the current day or month, to apply limits. Counts expire automatically (within about 40 days).
- IP address: used briefly to prevent abuse. Per-network counts expire within 48 hours.
Who processes it
- Anthropic (Claude) analyzes the content of each check, including Auto-check's quick first look. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to train models on this data; Anthropic may keep it for a limited time (typically up to 30 days) for safety and abuse monitoring.
- Cloudflare hosts our server and stores usage counts.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Attest, speech recognition and payments under Apple's own privacy policy.
We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we don't use third-party analytics or tracking.
Your choices
- Use ReelCheck without an account.
- Stop listening at any time from the app, the Dynamic Island or Control Center.
- Leave Auto-check off (the default), or turn it off at any time in Settings.
- Delete your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account). We delete your account record and usage data right away and revoke ReelCheck's access to your Apple sign-in.
- Email us to ask what we hold about you, or to exercise your rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA.
Children
ReelCheck isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. The app keeps its identifiers in the iOS Keychain. Our server verifies Apple's signatures on sign-ins, subscriptions and App Attest requests.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
